SPLINTING

Dental Splinting can Save loose teeth!

One common question from people who have loose teeth is “Can anything be done to tighten them?

Loose teeth can make eating uncomfortable as teeth are pulled away from their gums due to the biting pressure.

The causes of loosening are:
*    Trauma to teeth.
*    Progression of advanced gum disease.

Splinting is basically stabilization of the mobile tooth by drawing support from the strong adjacent tooth.

Splinting is usually done by using thin steel wire or fiber, which is passed through the spaces between the loose teeth and the adjacent strong teeth in as specific pattern so as to attain stabilization.

The procedure might be slightly painful.

What level of mobility can be stabilization?

Mobilty of 1mm can be treated successfully but anything beyond this reduces the chances of succcess and so does infection.

Patients having great degree of mobility (loose teeth) due to peridontal disease or those having congenitally missing laterals our clinic has a unique product to help them. Loose teeth can make eating uncomfortable as teeth are pulled away from their gums due to the biting pressure.

We are using “bondable reinforcement ribbon” made from ultra high molecular weight polyetelyne fibres for splinting applications .its unique qualities help in crack stopping and fracture toughness.This same fibre because of its special weave pattern and other qualities is also used in making bullet proof vests. Ribbond is recognised by major evaluators as dentistrys best fibre reinforcement.
